The study was carried out to determine the presence of L. monocytogenes in various seafoods and vegetables produced for exporting in Bursa (Turkey). Of 110 samples analyzed, 20 (18.2%) were found to be Listeria species. Listeria spp. were isolated from 2 frozen snail meats, 15 frozen peppers, 2 frozen strawberries and 1 frozen brussels cabbage. Among 15 Listeria isolates obtained from frozen peppers, three was identified as L. monocytogenes. The results of this study indicated that frozen peppers may have potentially health risk, and frozen pepper producers must take necessary precautions as indicated by HACCP principles to control possible contamination by L. monocytogenes.
