EVALUATION OF GREAT TROCHANTER FRACTURES IN DOGS AND CATS (1992-2002)

Great trochanter fractures were diagnosed in 12 dogs and 7 cats total 19 cases, which were brought Istanbul University Veterinary Faculty small animal surgery clinic. Physeal seperation of great trochanter encountered in 14 cases and fracture in 5. Operation have not been done to the other 5 cases. Two Kirschner wire were used in growing 11 cases for fixation and 2 Steinmann wire and tension band were used for fixation in fracture of mature 3 cases. 8 operated cases were recovered without problem, but complication were encounter in two cases. However this problem didn't affect function of leg.
