A STUDY ON THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF LEATHER TANNING ENTERPRISES IN BURSA, MUSTAFA KEMAL PAŞA DISTRICT

The leather sectors have a very important place for Turkey's economy. In this research, the enterprises, which deal with leather tanning in the Bursa Mustafa Kemal Paşa District Organized Industrial Zone, will be analyzed in terms of structural conditions.

The enterprises service terms are changing between 1-35 years and most of the enterprises are small scale and limited enterprises. It was observed that capasity ratio is changing between %25-%80 and raw hide was very important cost fot the enterprises. In this context percentage of costs are as follows; raw hide %64.5, chemical material %14.1, wages %11.2 amortization cost %5.3 and other general expenses %5.2.

On the other hand, only %42 of enterprises get the raw hide from domestic market and %17 of the enterprises export to Russian Federation, Italy and Austria by the way of mediator firms. Most of the firms have training facility for their employee. Necessity of the capital, in the establishment period and after is obtained with self-finance and customer lending. Main problems for the enterprises are marketing, price stability, financing, deficiency of qualified employee. As a result of these problems, enterprises are confronting decreasing competition ability.
