The aim of the present paper was to emphasise the severe scalling of the leg and deformity in the beak depended on Knemidokoptes spp. in budgerigars and the efficiency of single intramuscular ivermectin and local vaseline liqutde applications.
Two 3 year-old budgies were referred to the University of Ankara, Faculty of Veterinary Department of Internal Medicine with a history of scaly legs and beak deformities, generalized itching and weight loss.
Skin scrapings taken from the lesions in beak and leg revealed the agent as Knemidokoptes spp.
Treatment consisted of single ivermectin at 0.2 mg/kg dose intramuscularly and local mineral oil (vaseline liquid) applications. Beak and leg lesions disappeared and no Knemidokoptes spp. were detected in skin scrapings one month after treatment. Recurrency was not detected until now.
