DOG TUMORS OBSERVED IN ISTANBUL BETWEEN THE YEARS OF 1995 TO 2000

 In this study, statistical analyses of tumors, which were in tissues and organs of 182 dogs with different ganders and breeds, were made between the years of 1995 to 2000 in the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Istanbul University.

In these cases with the diagnose of tumor, it is determined that 89.0% were malignant and 10.99% were benignin character. The ages of 21 dogs out of 182 dogs were not know. In 161 dogs, excluding these unknown dogs, 52% were between 6- 10 years, 28% were between 1- 5 years, 15% were between 11- 15 years, 4% were under 1 year and 1% were over 15 years old. In these dogs, the breeds of 78 dogs were not determined. In 104 dogs whose breeds were determined, terrier and its subclasses have taken the first place with 27.88%, boxers have taken the second place with 12.5% and the German shepherds have taken the third place with 5.76%. The distribution of tumors in organs and tissues is; 40.10% female genital system, 31.34% skin and its supplemantary pieces, 7.14% digestive system, 6.64% haemopoietic system , 4.94% muscle - skeletal system, 2.74% lipoid tissue, 2.74% male genital system, 1.64% respiratory sytem, 1.64% eye and its supplemantary pieces, 0.54% ear tract and 0.54% nervous system.
