DISEASES OF THE NASOLACRIMAL CANAL SYSTEM IN DOGS

In nasolacrimal canal system diseases of the dog; Schirmer tear test. Fluorescein drainage test, nasolacrimal cannulation and flushing, microbiology and radiography are used for diagnosis. Punctum aplasie and micropunctum, which are congenital nasolacrimal canal diseases are most common seen. Canaliculi. nasolacrimal sac and nasolacrimal duct aplasia, displacement of punctum, congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction and canaliculops arc the most rarely seen congenital diseases in the dog. Nasolacrimal duct system lesions, dacryocystitis and foreign bodies are seen acquiretly, however neoplastic development is rare. In this review article, treatment options of congenital and acquired nasolacrimal canal diseases arc discussed.
