This study was carried out to determine lipoprotein profile and fructosamine levels in obese dogs. Materials of the study included 12 healthy control and 23 obese dogs from both sex, 2-5 year old. Blood samples were collected from each dog fasted at least 12 hours. Serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, very low density lipoprotein (VLDL). low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL) and fructosamine levels were analyzed. Serum total cholesterol (p<0.001), LDL and fructosamine (p<0.01), triglyceride (p<0.05) levels were higher, and HDL (p<0.05) levels were lower in obese dogs compared to controls. As a result, it was concluded that obese dogs with high triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL and low HDL levels might be predisposed to hyperlipidemia. It was also concluded that obese dogs with high fructosamine levels may have a risk for diabetes mellitus.
